Gold Fields Limited (NYSE:GFI)
has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire all of the outstanding common shares
of Yamana Gold Inc. (NYSE:AUY). Chris Griffith, the CEO of Gold
Fields, explained:

announcement is the result of a robust and extensive process carried out by the
Gold Fields’ Board and management team to identify the optimum solution to
support our revised strategy. Yamana’s high-quality asset base in the Americas
and strong development and exploration pipeline will further diversify the
geography of our portfolio, creating a top-4 global gold major, well positioned
to deliver long-term value creation. Combined, Gold Fields will boast an
industry leading portfolio of high-quality, long-life flagship assets that span
some of the world’s most established gold mining jurisdictions.”
Newmont Ventures Limited,
a wholly owned subsidiary of Newmont Corporation (NYSE:NEM), has announced a strategic investment in Awalé
Resources Limited (TSXV:ARIC). This also includes a venture
option on the latter’s Odienné Project in northwest Côte d'Ivoire, which
currently boasts “two primary targets for world-class discoveries: i) the
gold-rich Empire corridor and ii) the recently defined Sceptre Iron Oxide
Copper Gold.” Awalé Resources CEO Glen Parsons said:
"Awalé
is a team of proven and active explorers in highly prospective underexplored
regions, and I am thrilled that the Odienné Project has attracted Newmont, the
world's largest gold producer. We have always considered Odienné has the
potential to produce a Tier One asset which, based on work performed to date,
is now supported by Newmont through this transaction. Our shareholders can
share in the delivery of a project of this potential scale.
Great Panther Mining
Limited (NYSEAmerican:GPL) has reported drill results for an additional 29
holes at the Urucum North (URN) underground project at the company's wholly
owned Tucano Gold Mine in Brazil. The company’s Interim CEO, Alan Hair,
commented:
"The
zones of deeper, higher-grade mineralization being delineated at Urucum North
demonstrate the potential for additional production from these underground
resources in parallel with open pit operations at Tucano. In addition to the
Urucum North underground zone, exploration has identified several similar
potential high-grade zones associated with other pits along the seven-kilometre
belt, which may also support underground production and warrant additional
drilling. Drill results from the Urucum North underground will be incorporated
into an updated underground resource estimate."
Baselode Energy Corp. (TSXV:FIND) has shared an update for the ongoing 20,000 metre
diamond drilling program on the ACKIO high-grade uranium discovery, Hook
project, in the Athabasca Basin area of northern Saskatchewan, Canada.
Highlights include drill hole AK22-051, which intersected 2,320 cps over 30.1 m
at 27.0 m, and AK22-047, which intersected 5,229 cps over 7.35 m at 140.65 m.
