Barrick Gold Corporation (NYSE:GOLD) has announced that Nevada Gold Mines (NGM), which
it operates and owns 61.5 percent of, “has posted an exceptional performance in
its first 12 months of operation.” NGM met its production and cost targets
despite difficulties presented by COVID-19-related restriction, after having
merged “into a unified complex under a new leadership team.” Barrick Gold’s
President and CEO Mark Bristow commented:
“By
removing the fences that had previously separated geologically connected
assets, mines and projects that clearly belonged together could be combined
into larger and more efficient operations, with substantial savings as an
immediate benefit. Even more important, this merger has created a platform from
where we can see a bright new future for NGM as the leader of its industry in
every respect: truly a case of the best assets and the best people delivering
the best returns.”
Cordoba Minerals Corp. (TSXV:CDB) has completed the acquisition of a 100 percent
interest in the Alacran Copper-Gold-Silver Deposit in the Department of
Cordoba, Colombia. With this recent acquisition, Cordoba now boasts a 100 percent
ownership of the entire San Matias District. A press release from Monday (June 29)
quotes Eric Finlayson, President and CEO of Cordoba:
“We look forward
to completing pre-feasibility studies for mine development at Alacran and
continuing the search for the concealed porphyry systems responsible for
mineralization in the area."
Desert Gold Ventures Inc. (TSXV:DAU) has acquired the rights to a 95 percent interest
in the 16 km2 Sola West concession, filling a gap in its Senegal Mali
Shear Zone project. Desert Gold's CEO Jared Scharf said:
"We're
very pleased with the continued expansion of our SMSZ Project. Filling gaps
like Sola West are important given the fact that the mineralized systems both
to the northeast and southwest, along strike, likely continue onto the Sola
West property package. The presence of significant artisanal mining and strong
gold-in-soil anomalies further augment the perspectivity of Sola West. Weather
and time permitting, we plan to drill test some of these targets during our
current drill program.”
Camino Minerals Corporation (TSXV:COR) has acquired 100 percent ownership interest in the
Los Chapitos copper discovery in Peru, through the completion of the exercise
of its option agreement with Minas Andinas SA on the Los Chapitos property. Jay
Chmelauskas, the company’s President & CEO, explained:
"Our
Los Chapitos property is a new discovery in the copper sector that gained
recognition during the first exploration drill campaign initiated in 2017 and
2018. Camino has since advanced its systematic exploration at Chapitos with
geochemistry mapping, geophysics and permitting, leading us to our next drill
campaign planned for September. Drilling will be focussed on expansion of known
mantos and the discovery of potentially new copper mantos. New copper
discoveries are needed to shore up the supply demand dislocation between
depleting mine supply and new copper demand from an electrifying global
economy. We believe that the Los Chapitos discovery has the potential to host a
significant copper deposit, and Camino has now secured 100% ownership."
