Rio Tinto Group (NYSE:RIO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
with German steel producer Salzgitter Group “to work together towards
carbon-free steelmaking by studying optimisation of Rio Tinto’s high-quality
Canadian and Australian iron ore products for use in Salzgitter’s SALCOS green
steel project in Germany.” Rio Tinto’s Chief Commercial Officer, Alf Barrios,
said:
"We
welcome the chance to work with Salzgitter on ways to accelerate green
steelmaking, in keeping with our commitment to reduce emissions across the
steel value chain.
"Salzgitter
has one of the world’s most advanced green steelmaking projects. Rio Tinto is
excited at the opportunity of supplying our product and combining our technical
expertise with that of Salzgitter to help advance the SALCOS project."
AngloGold Argentina
Exploraciones S.A., a wholly-owned subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti Limited (NYSE:AU), has entered into a binding option agreement with
Latin Metals Inc. (TSXV:LMS), wherein the latter has granted
AngloGold the option to earn up to an 80 percent interest in its Organullo, Ana
Maria, and Trigal Gold projects in the Salta Province of northwestern
Argentina. Keith Henderson, President and CEO of Latin Metals, said:
“AngloGold
Ashanti is the fourth largest gold producer globally, with operations across
four continents. AngloGold’s investment of up to USD $12.575 million for a 75%
ownership interest in the Projects is a significant investment and, if
AngloGold were to exercise its top-up right for an aggregate 80% ownership,
additional investments by AngloGold would include delivery of a Mineral
Resource estimate and further cash payments commensurate with defined ounces to
Latin Metals.”
Barsele Minerals Corp. (TSXV:BME) has shared an operational update for ongoing
exploration activities at the Barsele Gold-VMS Project area in Västerbottens
Län in northern Sweden. The exploration program is being operated by joint
venture partner Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (NYSE:AEM). From January 1 and May 31, 2022
geophysical surveys, base of till sampling, plus MEFFA (multi-element fine
fraction analysis) surface till sampling and more have been done “to define
precious/base metal anomalous areas. All this work has been carried out in preparation
for this year's diamond drill campaign.”
Barksdale Resources Corp.
(TSXV:BRO) has reported positive results from its first phase
of metallurgical test work on copper mineralization at the San Javier
copper-gold project in Sonora, Mexico. Rick Trotman, the company’s President
and CEO of Barksdale, explained:
"The
results of the San Javier column leach testing program have demonstrated strong
recoveries of oxide copper while also shedding considerable light on the
potential for a low-cost style operation that doesn't require agglomeration and
has low acid consumption. These initial metallurgical recovery parameters will
assist in the calculation of our initial resource at Cerro Verde and will also
feed into a preliminary economic study."
